In these difficult economic times, we greatly appreciate the sacrifices each of you makes to be able to send your children to St. Philip the Apostle Catholic School.
As I am sure you are aware, our school faces the same financial challenges you do as individuals. We need to be able to pay our teachers a fair, and somewhat competitive with the public schools, wage, as well as coping with increasing costs for utilities, insurance, and all the other expenses involved in operating a school.
We believe it is important for our school parents to understand the actual cost of one child’s education versus what we charge for tuition. Our school operating budget for the 2011-2012 school year was $869,088. Based on a projected enrollment of 144 students, that makes the actual cost to educate one child $6,035. When you compare our actual cost to that in Dallas ISD which is $7,357 per student, we believe you will agree that the great education your child receives at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic School is really a bargain.
Our tuition rates are far below our actual cost of $6,035. In addition, we give discounts to families with multiple children and some scholarships based on need. A large “gap” is created between the amount of money we need to operate the school and the amount we collect in tuition each year. The "gap" for this year is $1,110. This “gap” must be made up through fundraising, parish subsidy, and donations from generous people or organizations.
We know our families appreciate the excellent education their children receive. We are asking each family to look at their personal budgets and, if at all possible, seriously consider paying the actual cost to educate your child or children for the 2012-2013 school year. The difference between the actual cost and our tuition rates should be made payable to St. Philip the Apostle Catholic School and sent to Mrs. Carol Catalano, marked “Gap Fund”.
