2011-12 BASKETBALL LEAGUE
FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES 1-4
Our basketball teams offer our young athletes the
opportunity to develop the following qualities:
1. Teamwork
2. Confidence
3. Self-Discipline
4. Commitment
5. Leadership
6. Loyalty
7. Sportsmanship
8. Physical Wellness
Although all of the above qualities are important, the association feels strongly that teamwork plays the most important role in the success of the program. In fact, the “disease of me” is the number one threat facing any team. NBA coaching legend Pat Riley discussed the “disease of me” in his book entitled The Winner Within. “The most difficult thing for
individuals to do when they’re part of a team is to sacrifice.
It’s too easy to become selfish in a team environment. You must give up something... comfort, ease, recognition, or quick rewards to attract something better in the future,” stated Riley. The coaching staff demands that all members of the program dedicate themselves to TEAM excellence.
At times, this may call for individual.sacrifice for the good of the team. However, the team will prosper if all members of the association are willing to sacrifice and put total trust in their teammates and coaches.
